Circuit du Tarn et ses coteaux - 2 Loops

La Vallée & les Coteaux

The two “Le Tarn et ses coteaux” cycle routes let you discover the landscapes shaped by this famous river. Valley or hillsides, choose the route that suits you best.
Beginners can follow the Tarn plain along the former Montauban-Bessières railroad line, now converted into a Voie Verte, to reach Villemur-sur-Tarn and its historic center.

If you’re feeling sporty, you can venture to the heights for a breathtaking view of the Tarn valley!
Along the way, stop off at the “Saveurs du Carretou” to sample local produce.
From Labastide-Saint-Pierre, you can join the Circuit des vignes for a tour of the Frontonnais vineyards!

Canal to Garonne circuit

From the Canal des Deux Mers waterway to the wild Garonne river, the “De Canal à Garonne” tour takes you through this watery region.
Leaving from Verdun-sur-Garonne and its historic center, the landscape unfolds along the water’s edge, with stops along both the river and the canal!
A stop in Grisolles allows you to discover the heritage of this former broom capital and its Calbet museum.
On the way back, the Parc de Garonne (in Verdun-sur-Garonne) offers a pleasant picnic area on the banks of the Garonne, and the opportunity to continue the adventure on foot towards the Ile de Labreille.

From Canals, you can join the Circuit des vignes for a tour of the Frontonnais vineyards!

An easy cycling loop for the whole family

“My children and I do this loop from time to time on Saturday afternoons. Leaving Verdun-sur-Garonne, once over the Garonne bridge, we zigzag through fields and apple orchards. When we get to Grisolles, we like to stop under the covered market for a well-deserved snack! If we feel like it, we’ll go and see the latest exhibition at the little Calbet museum, which is open and free on Saturdays. The way back along the canal bank is very pleasant, and the boys are usually on the run! No fear of passing a car, this is the Voie Verte, so I let them outrun me a bit! We reach Dieupentale, where a small sign directs us around the village to avoid the dangerous départementale. Not much of a climb, and we’re back in Verdun happy! In summer, the kids like to make a last stop at the Garonne park to dip their feet in the river!”

Cycling and motorhoming in the heart of the vineyards

“We’ve been traveling by motorhome for almost 20 years. On our trip to the Tarn-et-Garonne region, we discovered the Frontonnais vineyards. Our drive through the vineyards took us to Château Boujac, where we met up with Michelle and Philippe Selle for a tour of the estate. The tour included a picnic basket, and after parking our camper van (free of charge!), we set off to explore the vineyards by bike. It was a gentle ride, with plenty of time to take photos of the vineyards, the Fabas lakes and the curious carved oak tree! On our return to the estate, we couldn’t resist taking home a souvenir from Négrette country to prolong the pleasure of our taste buds a little longer!”

A sporting challenge and geocaching - the perfect cocktail!

“Living in the Tarn-et-Garonne, we like to challenge ourselves by the day. The Voie Verte linking Bressols to Villemur-sur-Tarn is perfect for that! After passing through Labastide-Saint-Pierre, we stopped in Orgueil to decide on our route: valley or hillsides? We chose the sportive route and, after a bit of effort, were able to admire the breathtaking view over the Tarn valley. Well worth the effort! On our way, we crossed the road leading to Varennes and the Puylauron viewpoint, where we had recently discovered a new geocache. Time for a short break… and a great selfie!”
