The MAGMA Museum

Located in the commune of Finhan, MAGMA (Musée des Arts Graphiques et des Musiques Actuelles) is a unique venue in France, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of sound and visual aesthetics.

Housed in a majestic 19th-century manor house and surrounded by a 16,000 m² park, this atypical museum invites visitors on a fascinating journey through music, graphic arts and historical heritage.

MAGMA Museum

an extraordinary museum

MAGMA houses an exceptional collection of over 80,000 documents and objects: screen-printed posters, vinyl records, CDs, fanzines, rare books, musical instruments and sound archives. It builds bridges between the graphic arts and contemporary musical creation. The museum offers original exhibitions, concerts and educational workshops, as well as a specialized library where rare works on music and the graphic arts can be consulted.

Les musicophages

by Christophe, the Chairman

For over 25 years, Les Musicophages has been collecting the heritage of contemporary music and publishing resources on the subject (articles, books, exhibitions). Driven by Les Musicophages, MAGMA will house this unique collection of 80,000 documents in France: vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, fanzines and specialized press, books, posters and serigraphs, objects… We also create exhibitions for Bibliothèques Départementales (departmental libraries) throughout France, and support projects in the music world.

When we decided to expand, we fell in love with this extraordinary house that had been lying dormant for decades, and we were made very welcome at FINHAN. Together with my team, we imagined a house where everyone would enter as a guest to spend some time, visit an exhibition, take part in a workshop and/or finish, (why not?) with a tasting, lounge in the park with a good cup of coffee and a magazine… A place for everyone and the whole family. A place where artists and visitors can meet, mingle and bond.

Le Manoir

a setting steeped in history

MAGMA is housed in a sumptuous Belle Époque manor house, built in the 1870s and modernized over the decades. Once the summer residence of a large, enlightened family, it bears witness to the bourgeois lifestyle of the late 19th century. Its richly decorated salons, coffered ceilings and period wallpapers, as well as the 250 photographic plates found on site, offer a fascinating testimony to the past. Rehabilitated to house the museum, the building retains all its charm of yesteryear while incorporating modern, interactive spaces, enabling visitors to explore the link between architectural heritage and contemporary creation.
